Our Story

In 1991, Kevin Niemeier, PE founded M&N Structures, Inc. with the goal of combining steel design services with steel fabrication capabilities. This is now widely known as Design/Build.

The company was built on Kevin’s structural engineering experience, and the structural steel fabrication knowledge of John Maher, who was a local industry leader from the 1950s through the 1970s. Kevin’s wife, Betsy, joined the company a year later, bringing experience in business sales and finance.

John consulted with Kevin and Betsy until 1993. His knowledge and influence helped M&N Structures develop and continues to shape our company.

In 1995, Kevin’s son, Jim, joined the business after graduating from college.

In the first several years, Kevin, Betsy, and Jim all split time between the office, drafting table, and the fabrication shop. This hands-on experience in every aspect of the company, and our commitments to continuous improvement and technology has led to growth. M&N Structures has expanded several times into larger facilities, and our experience and capabilities continue to grow.

In 2005, Kevin and Betsy’s son-in-law, Jonathan Henriksen, joined the staff as a fabricator. This hands-on experience has given Jonathan an edge as a project manager.

We have also added experienced fabricators who have played an integral part in the growth of M&N Structures.

In the fall of 2010, M&N Structures is relocating yet again, to a new 28,000 square foot facility in Winsted, Minnesota. As part of our latest expansion, we are adding another automated CNC line to further increase our capabilities.
